Man! We have been sick around here! Seriously, just as soon as I think the girls are better they get hit with a fever again. I doesn't seems to stop. I don't have much to report this week, only a few things we did while the illness attacked us.
I forgot to mention some fun things I did last month. I went to see a musical called Million Dollar Quartet with my friend Megan and it was great. It's about the jam session Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and some other dude... had together one night. The talent was amazing. It can't see that show ever being done without professional actors. I don't know where you can get people that can sing the ranges, act believable these well known men and look the part. They were incredible. Makes me miss seeing theatre a lot. My dream someday is to be able to use the money I earn from voice lessons and theatre workshops to buy season tickets everywhere. :)
I also went back to my allergist for a follow up on my gluten issues and to be tested for pollens, since they can't do both foods and pollens at the same time. My gluten allergy seems inconsistent, so I'm exploring other options for my stomach aliments. However, my pollen test was interesting. It seems I am allergic to everything. Seriously, my whole back was covered in welts from the prick test. Anything that pollinates through the air I am allergic to. Grasses, tress (with the exceptions of olive trees) anything in Southern Arizona. I am really allergic to Palo Verde trees apparently. They line my street. Awesome. My doctor was amazed that I wasn't miserable, but I honestly think I'm just use to it. I rarely take allergy medicine, only when it's really bad. My doctor was amazed. He said if he showed my results to any other allergist they would assume I was miserable. I guess you just learn to live with things. It does explain why I was so sick as a kid though. I was probably just suffering from allergies and we didn't know it.
My good friend Cindy went through the temple for the first time in May. We drove up and had Aunt Cheryl watch the girls for us. It was so nice of her. Especially since Annalise wet her pants while there and she went to buy her new underwear and a skirt. Then while she was gone Matt had to deal with her saying she needed to poop and didn't quite make it to the potty... fun for their family! Parents in training? Anyway, we missed the session she was going through by about 10 minutes so we did sealings instead. I had some family names that were ready for sealing and so we did those. I can't describe how amazing it was to seal family names. Seriously, I cried (okay, sobbed) through all the names. I felt their love while we were sealing them. At one point I was so overcomed that the sealer had to stop for moment to regroup his thoughts. It was CRAZY! I can only describe it as - when you seal people you don't know, you're happy for them but that's about it. It's like when you hear about a friend of friend that just got married. You're happy for them and it's nice but it doesn't really affect you. Now, when you are sealing YOUR family together, it's like being at the wedding of dear friend that have worked so hard to FINALLY make it. You know their lives and care deeply for them. I was hard not to feel overcome with the spirit.
I also got to meet a few new girls for voice lessons for the start of the school year. I have decided that I enjoyed teaching voice so much that I would add on 4 new girls with my already two girls. The girls all seems really sweet and I told them what I expect from them, that this is a commitment and they are expected to practice. I had filled all 4 of my spaces but one other girl really wanted to meet with me. I decided that I would still teach her if she wanted me to and just have an extra lesson on Wednesdays. I'm glad I had one too many girls now since one of my original students decided to drop. I chatted with her and she never practiced. She found the whole thing hard and stressful (because she didn't practice...) and decided to do something else instead. She didn't really put any of the technique I taught her into practice, so I think she was wasting her time with me. So my extra girl will slide into her slot and I have 6 students. I like to meet my students before they commit for lessons to get an assessment. To see where they are musically and for them to get a chance to meet me and how I work. I think you should meet a teacher before you start forking over money to them. Anyway, I had one student come for an assessment that I was a little nervous about, since she had already taken voice lessons for a year. When I meet with her I expected her to already know how to read music and breathe correctly, but she had no clue. I was surprised. She had an excellent voice but her teacher didn't teacher her the basics. Her mom was so nice during the lesson. She kept saying that she was thrilled with what I was showing her daughter. I'm excited to get to work with them.
I also got to do my piano recital this last month. I played Moonlight Sonata. I love that song. I HATE having to change pianos though! They feel so different and the keys don't move the same. It is so difficult to play on an instrument that is completely foreign to you! I am in awe of people who can change pianos so easily!
I also had my first vocal recital. It went really well. It was a small group, only about 20 people. Which was perfect for my 2 singers. We had water and cookies afterwards. It would have been easy to set up and do if I wasn't SO sick. We need to get over this illness!
Now on to the fun stuff - pictures of my beautiful children!
Our garden is producing nicely!
We eat a lot of cilantro, basil, squash and green beans so far.
The girls love helping in the garden!
Our roses even bloom in the 110 heat!
We like to cut some off and bring them in the house to enjoy.
Memorial Day was kind of horrible this year. Todd ended up working so I was bummed the whole day. We didn't do anything special. Daddy came home with some sparklers for the girls but I had already agreed to babysit a friend's kids so they could go see a movie. At least Todd took some pictures of the girls with the sparklers.
Annalise playing
They seem happy/scared of fire
I hope they had fun!
Despite being sick Nora started a little dance class (she didn't seem too into it... I might switch her to gymnastics in the fall), we went to see a movie for the summer movie series and went swimming. I kind of decided we needed to leave the house after weeks of being ill or GO CRAZY!
At least we have fun, right?
With All My Love,
Your Mother
Sorry your sweet ones have been sick. It is part of growing up though. I do hope they all recover so that you can have a fun summer. Thank you for all the photos. We love you.
